Catherine was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She shone brightly all through her life.
Born in the Bahamas and educated in Nassau, Trinidad and later in London, Catherine was fortunate to have an exhilarating youth and a career in Art History, which she adored. Catherine met Randolph, her first love at the early age of 17. They were married when she was just 23 on the 21st of March 1992 at St Mary’s Westerham with a reception at Chartwell.
In 1996 Catherine and Randolph settled at Crockham Grange and started their wonderful family with Serena born on the 12th of May that year. Zoë was born in 1998, Alice in 2003 and John in 2007. Catherine created a special, welcoming home and shared it generously with family and friends both in the community and from further afield. Nothing was ever too much to ask.
Sadly, Catherine aged 52 was diagnosed with lung cancer in November 2020, which she battled stoically through months of intense treatment. Throughout her illness she showed immense courage, grace, and most of all honesty. Catherine was committed to raising awareness about her cruel illness and in March of this year hosted a lunch for Cancer Research UK, which raised over £9,000.
Catherine’s friends gave her immense joy and happiness through the hardest of times. She was grateful to have such an incredible group rallied around her. From her friends and family, she drew true strength and hope.
Aside from her love of Randolph and her wonderful children, she cherished her “miraculous garden” and all the joys of the flowers and the varied wildlife. Her childhood spent in the Caribbean inspired her love of nature and vibrant colours.
In celebrating Catherine’s life, we remember her radiant smile, kind and gentle personality, infectious sense of fun and the eternal love of her entire family, who will miss her greatly.
In support of Cancer Research UK on the 31st of July we held a Garden Opening for over 450. Paula Moore and her dynamic committee really gave us all day we could be proud of. My brother in law Peter Lancaster lit & manned the BBQ for Pulled Pork from 4:15am! The cakes were as scrumptious as ever, the Pimms flowed freely and there was honey (given by Thalia White). My son John and his friends had such great support for their wood work store! I understand that over the day about £7,200 was raised. 🤓🤓🤓
We were also very humbled to receive two important donations one of £5,000 and the other £1,000.
The day was a triumph and thank you Cyndy for all your watering!
In Catherine memory we are so happy over £50,000 has been raised for Cancer Research UK, The Royal Marsden Lung Research and for Hospice in the Weald.
